Is it necessary to remove all the oil?

and also, can anyone here unscrew that drain plug found on the oil filter cartridge when you do an oil change? Just curious on what everyone else does

Yes, you should drain every drop if you want to change your oil for maintenance. And nope, you dont unscrew a drain plug when changing your oil.

I agree with @WhatKanyeDo on draining as much of the old oil as possible. It's necessary to remove contaminants and ensure efficiency for the new oil. But for the drain plug, I think it's a matter of preference. Some people I know use a specific tool to unscrew it and drain the filter before removing the whole cartridge. It helps minimize the mess!
