My first experience with a manual 4WD selector

I recently picked up a '23 TRD Off Road, and I'm loving it. The only hiccup came from learning the manual transfer case lever, it's my first 4WD without buttons or a rotary dial. At first, I shifted too slowly and hit Neutral on the transfer case, which caused some grinding. Now I make one quick, steady throw and it works fine. Did I cause lasting damage with those early mistakes?

I had the same learning curve with my '21 4Runner. First few shifts into 4LO were slow and I hit Neutral too, heard a little grind. Took it to my mechanic just to be sure, and he said as long as it wasn't forced or done often, it's usually no big deal.

I was worried I might've messed something up right out of the gate, it sounds like a little grinding during the learning curve isn't the end of the world if it's not repeated often

@4wardever A little grinding during the first few shifts happens more often than you think. As long as it’s not constant, your 4Runner should be fine.
