Hi guys, I recently removed some rear rotors and fiddled with the drum brakes or my toyota 4runner, which got me thinking about making this thread. So, here's a few tips to make it easier to do it:
to get the rotors off, give it a tap if it's being a pain. So, if the rotor's stuck on tight (rust can be a real bugger), try giving it a few gentle whacks with a rubber hammer. Don't go Hulk on it.
when your parking brake is on, the brake shoe inside pushes outwards and clamps down on the inside part of the rotor. That's what keeps your car from rolling away! So, you gotta make sure that parking brake is totally off before you even think about pulling that rotor.
when messing with the drum brakes, tighten the adjuster until you feel just a little bit of rubbing when you spin the wheel. Then back it off just a hair so it spins freely without getting stuck.
